Improbable journey. Unconventional career. Science-backed solutions.

About Julie

Most business advisors learned about risk from case studies. I learned it at 16, becoming a teenage mother in a small Florida town where the script was already written for me.

What they said wouldn't be possible: Making anything of my life.

What I did instead: Earned my Ph.D. by the age of 25.

What conventional wisdom deemed unlikely: Building my career at Google, Two Sigma, and CHANEL.

What I did along the way: Wrote a book about revolutionizing work.

What made perfect sense to me: Opening a CrossFit gym while advising Fortune 500 companies in my post-corporate life.

Here's what I've discovered: The same principles that help you make transformational personal decisions—whether that's pursuing a doctorate as a young single mother, relocating across continents, or lifting the equivalent of your bodyweight overhead—are the same ones that build exceptional organizations.

I've designed people strategies in Silicon Valley's innovation factories, Wall Street's quantitative hedge funds, and Paris's luxury houses. I've lived in San Francisco, New York, and London. I've stood on the podium at the 2014 World Masters Weightlifting Championship and on stages delivering keynotes about the future of work.

But the real credential isn't where I've been—it's what I know and teach about the space between knowing and doing, between vision and execution, between hierarchy and humanity.

I partner with leaders who refuse to accept that "this is just how organizations work."

Because the best people's strategies aren't born from accepting the status quo. They come from daring to question it, being bold enough to imagine what's possible. And then nailing the landing through pragmatic and iterative design.
